The Real Club Náutico de Valencia celebrates this week the Spanish Snipe Master Championship

Starting today, Thursday, the Real Club Náutico de Valencia hosts the Spanish Snipe Master Championship, which brings together fifty of the best senior sailors in the class. The event has managed to bring together some of the great legends of the class at a national level, such as the "Nano" Belda, who is still in the running with more than 85 years of age, sailing in the Legend category, or the Asturian José Palacios, a true regatta classic. Also present will be the current defender of the European runner-up title, the Portuguese Tiago Roquette, who will sail on this occasion together with Miquel Cebolla, or Agustín Zabalúa and Louis Moysan, who have a long list of victories and will sail separately in this event. , along with Miguel Costa and Alejandro De Castro, respectively.

Fifty sailors from more than fifteen clubs from all over Spain and Portugal, who will give their best during three days of competition on the water that will begin tomorrow, Friday.

The presence of the most experienced athletes in the class will undoubtedly ensure a very high level in the water, and a hotly contested competition without a clear favourite.

One regatta, four categories
The participants will all compete together in the same fleet, but will be classified into four categories for the results: junior - skipper between 45 and 54 years old - master - skipper between 55 and 64 years old - grandmaster - between 65 and 74 years old and Legend Master, for patrons over 75 years old.

As usual in the Snipe class competitions, whose motto is "Serious Sailing, Serious fun", there will be no lack of social events such as the sailors' paella when returning to land, or the traditional trophy delivery, but always complying with all the security measures.

“The organization of an event like this has been a great effort, since we must ensure that all the Covid-19 measures are complied with, and at the same time coordinate the presence of these fifty teams with the rest of the classes that regularly sail in the club”, says Laura Morata, responsible for the Snipe class at RCN Valencia.
